RESEARCH

We are participating in the NHS lead research through PCRN(Primary Care Research Network).

If suitable,  you will be asked by doctors or nurses to participate in these trials.

It's not compulsory to sign up but we appreciate your  help, as it will not only benefits you,

but  will help to improve treatment/diagnosis across the NHS (worldwide in some instances).

Please be reassured that consent of the patient is sought prior to any research activities being undertaken.

If you would like to participate or wants to know more about the current research projects we are participating in,

please contact either Diane, our Research Lead nurse or Dr Edara.

Currently we are recruiting patients in to 2 studies. 1. Early Arthritis study, if you suffer from any new onset joint pain, you may be asked by your doctor to

participate in this study. 2. There is a possibility that you could be suffering from Bipolar illness but come with mainly depression/low mood symptoms. We are currently recruiting people who are on antidepressants in to this study to find out whether they have just depression or do they have bipolar illness.

Training Practice

We are actively involved in training doctors who wish to specialise in general practice. These doctors, known as GP registrars have worked in hospitals prior to deciding to take a career in general practice.

Initially they may be sitting in with other doctors before running surgeries themselves. Registrars may be with us anything from 4 - 12 months, depending on their rotations.

We are also involved in the advanced training of Nurse Practitioners and Community Matrons. These clinicians work under the supervision of the doctors.

Disabled Access

Access for disabled patients, including wheelchairs, is via the entrance to the nurse's treatment room in the car park. The facilities include toilet, consulting room and treatment room.

Flash News ; In order to improve the services we offer to our patients, we are pleased to announce that we will have a lift to the reception area very soon. This is a great relief to all of us as this will solve the long standing disabled/wheel chair access problem.

CCTV Cameras

The practice has CCTV installed in public areas. These cameras are recording 24 hours a day.

Complaints

The practice operates its own complaints procedure as part of the NHS system for dealing with complaints. A leaflet giving full details is available from reception.

If the complaint cannot be resolved using the in-house procedure then you will be directed to the appropriate authority, ie The Patient Advice and Liaison Service or Independent Complaints Advocacy Service.

Zero Tolerance

The practice participates in the NHS ZERO TOLERANCE SCHEME. The scheme aims to protect doctors and their staff and patients who use the surgery from people whose behaviour is regarded as unacceptable, abusive, physically or verbally threatening and they may be prosecuted by the West Yorkshire Police under the scheme, such patients will be removed from the practice list.

Confidentiality

All staff sign a confidentiality statement at the commencement of their employment contracts, a breach of confidentiality is treated as gross misconduct and therefore instant dismissal.

Confidentiality applies to all patients who are currently registered with us or who have been registered in the past. Only staff who are authorised can see your information. Computer access is limited and staff only access their system with their NHS smart card.

Non-NHS Paperwork

It is important to understand that the completion by doctors of forms/reports is NOT core NHS work i.e. it is PRIVATE work undertaken by your GP's in their own time and not their usual surgery NHS time. Please try to be patient - NHS work does and must always take priority over private work.

1. Forms or reports such as Private medical insurance claims, holiday cancellations, sickness or accident reports etc. These forms should be brought or sent to the surgery. It will then be given to your doctor for completion. There will be a charge for this, payable on collection of the completed form.

2. Insurance forms. These are reports compiled from your medical records for purposes such as life assurance, mortgages etc. These forms may appear to take some time to complete, as it is not uncommon for it to take up to one month between you signing the consent form/request for information and the surgery receiving the documentation. Further delays can occur if a doctor is on holiday. Please be patient.

Chaperones

We operate a chaperone policy and all patients are free to request a chaperone who should be a trained clinician. However, if a clinician is unavailable to chaperone at the time of your appointment, your GP or nurse will offer you the choice of either having a non-clinical chaperone (i.e- a receptionist) or making another appointment.
